Subject: Carbolic Acid Drinking

How interesting — and sad, I guess. The message below mentions someone
drinking carbolic acid. My great-aunt committed suicide in 1901 by drinking
carbolic acid. Was this a common way to commit suicide back then? What IS
carbolic acid?
