My father told me about a cousin who died and for me to let things lie. "He
died".
Mary Gentry was very kind and pulled his obit and I found out what had
happened. After piecing everything together, the truth is this.
My cousin killed himself due to severe shell shock truama from being on the
USS Arizona when it was bombed in Pearl Harbor. He was in the water with
body parts floating all around him. When he got home, no one in the family
wanted to talk with him about it and kept telling him to stop thinking about
it. My cousin became a drinker and took his own life because of his mental
pain.
I would much rather have know the truth than to know "he died". We all die.
He was a brave man who was unable to bear what he saw during the war. That
is worthwhile to me. Maybe not to Walt Davies, but to me I love my cousin
more for what he went through.
Thank you for listening and thank you Mary for your sweet honesty and
feeling in your response to "Re: "Why do you need to know these
things.....?"
