I just spend the last half hour having the librarians
at Bloat Hall on the U.C. campus, seeing if we could
find in California Law Codes, what the next-of-kin,
they do not define the term.

The closes we could figure out was to use Black's law
dictionary, under the term Next-of-kin, is the
following: 1. The person or persons most closely
related by blood to a decedent.;2. The person or
persons entitled to inherit personal property from a
decedent who has not left a will.
see HEIR.

Under Heir, was this term is the term: laughing heir;
an heir distant enough to feel no grief when a
relative dies and leaves a windfall to the heir.

Now if I could only become a Laughing Heir, ;-)

George

p.s. I am going to check the State Law re:cemetery
records, and see if the state has to follow them.
Wish me luck.
