Highlights:
Hon. Jasper O'Farrell was born in County Wexford in 1817. He education was
aquired in Dublin. He went to London and took a vessel bound for Chili,
South America. Then he left for CA, reaching San Francisco Oct 20, 1843.
Jasper was the first surveyour and engineer of San Franciso and took an
active part in politics. IKn 1858 he was elected to the state senate to
represent Sonoma County.

The ground on which the Palace Hotel stands was owned by him in company with
John SULLLIVAN and D. T. MURPHY and donated to the Sisters of Charity to be
used for an orphan asylum. The property was sold by the sister to the Palace
Hotel Company.
The Catholic Church at Bodega stands as a gift from Mr. O'FARRELL.
When Jasper became settled he brought out from Ireland his mother, Mrs. Mary
O'FARRELL who lived with him in Sonoma until her death March 26, 1869.
In Sonoma County in 1849, Jasper O'FARRELL married Miss Mary McCHRISTIAN and
they had 8 children, five living:

the late John J. O'FARRELL

Jasper died Nov 16 1875 in San Francisco. His name is perpetruated in
O'Farrell Street in that city.
