Among my late parents belongings was the following Funeral Card of John Cobb, my great great grandfather.
As there does not seem to be an obituary or other mention of his death in Lake County records where he lived from the 1850s to his death in 1893, I wanted to pass this along. This is a 4x6 card, black with gold printing.
WHOM THE LORD LOVETH HE CHASENETH
There is no death! What seems so is transition,
This life of mortal breathe
Is but a subrre`of the Life alyalan,
Whose plural we call death.
In Loving Remembrance of
John Cobb
Died, Nov. 13, 1893,
Age 79 yrs, 5 mos., 25 days
A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
God, in his wisdom, has recalled
The boon his love has given,
And though the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in heaven.
