Alum Rock got it's name from a Boulder of Copper Sulfate and other minerals
that exist where the Hayward/Calaveras Fault spews gases and water into
Mineral springs,that boulder was melted for the war effort but the public
springs and swimming pool with it's twisted slide lasted many years it was
always a safe and nice place to meet and Picnic into the late 60's.
