Hi Wendy,

Some years back a local bookstore sold softcover self-published
photocopies of the following:

The Martins and The Hattons
[Of the Martin Mission Ranch
and the Hatton Dairy]
Carmel Valley
California

A look into the past
With a hope for the future!

This book is about the families of Agnes & William MARTIN and Kate
Harney & William HATTON. There is no mention of the names listed below.

William MARTIN was born and raised in Scotland. Along with his family,
MARTIN arrived in Canada in 1842 and then the family moved to Monterey
in 1856. William HATTON was born in Ireland, later immigrated to South
Carolina, and with his wife, arrived in Monterey in 1870.

MARTIN's Mission Ranch is now owned by Clint Eastwood and is a
combination motel, restaurant, & bar. Eastwood restored all of the
original farm buildings and converted most to bedroom suites. The ranch
is right below Carmel Mission, hence it's name, and is along the
marshlands near the mouth of the Carmel River.

The former lower dairy of the HATTON family is now The Barnyard shopping
center. The original dairy barn was converted into two levels of shops
and a restaurant. Other buildings were added to the site for additional
stores and restaurants. The upper dairy became a subdivision. It I
remember correctly, the original farmhouse is now some sort of bed &
breakfast.

The small book [5-1/4 x 8-1/2, 48 pages] has a lot of photos of people
and places though the reproduction quality is a bit lacking. None of the
names mentioned below are in the book.

Hope this helps,
Anita C.

> Hi..I am looking for any information concerning my Martin Family. My great Grand Father was W. D. Martin. He came to Magalia (Dog Town) from Tennessee. Then moved to the Tehama County area. His first wife Minerva Lloyd passed and he married Nancy Taylor Hatton in Colusa County (Calif) in 1869 and had several more children. Nancy's daughter from her first marriage (Edna Hatton) married a Bondurant as did W.D.'s oldest daughter Melinda Catherine Martin.
