I have one that had been my grandfathers uncle John Schulken had in San
Francisco. He had a store there for many years. Unfortunately my Great
Grandmother used part of it to paste old recipes in. I believe it covers the
years 1901 to 1903. I do not know what happened to the rest of his ledgers.
One
woman purchased mostly cigars and whiskey, I always wondered about her :-)

If anyone would be interested, I can put up a few pages from an 1858 store
ledger so you can see what one actually looked like.

I grew up in Angels Camp. My Nana came to CA in a stage coach when she was
seven (1879). I grew up hearing her stories about the "pioneers."
I think EVERYONE who grew up in Angels Camp knew that the miners also ate
miners lettuce as well as water cress in the winter. California had an
abundance of fresh foods to eat.
