One more comment on this topic so many people have
been able to share...
I enjoyed looking at the website photos of spencers
and pelisses. I will be able to picture Jane Austen's
ladies so much better now.

When it came to the photo of the red cloaks, I
suddenly thought of Little Red Riding Hood. Do
you think she could have been a Norfolk lass?

On a silly note, the old settlers of Canada (and
probably the USA) preferred red "long johns" or
"union suits". Red was a warmer colour than grey!

I enjoy these side topics that flesh out the subject.
We can all take part in the conversation, without
having the right surname or access to documents.
