I am interested in obtaining information on the family name 'SAWYER'.
The earliest information I have is the baptism of William Sawyer on 8 Jan 1778,
son of William Sawyer and Ann, in the parish of Athelington, SUFFOLK.
However, I have information regarding the name SAYER (a possible alternative
spelling) of Pulham, NORFOLK that goes back at least 13 generations. The
fact that Athelington, Suffolk and Pulham, Norfolk are only approximately
nine miles apart leaves me to believe that the SAYER of Pulham and SAWYER of
Athelington may be of one and the same ancestory. If they are, I may be able
to obtain the same 13 generations of information.
Furthermore, the Coat of Arms of SAYER is "Gules, a chevron ERMINE BETWEEN 3
SEAPIES ARGENT" and the Coat of Arms of SAWYER is "Azure a fess or and SABLE
BETWEEN THREE SEAPIES ARGENT". I have no knowledge of Heraldry and these
similarities may be nothing more than a coincidence.
If anyone knows of any records of Sawyer or Sayer, I would appreciate
hearing from them direct at
