I just checked the "Penguin Dictionary of Surnames" [just in case you
wondered, Penguin are the publishers]. It doesn't give Lanks but for
Lank it says "lanky or skinny" and says it is Old English. Neither
version is mentioned in a couple of area white pages I have, but
there's nothing conclusive about that.
