Subject: Surname Bolton -and- NFK trip - advice please ?
Date: Mon, 3 Nov 97 20:04:25 UT
Hi
At VERY short notice I have been able to wangle some spare time in a trip to
NFK.
The only time I have free is pm on Friday 7th Nov and the morning of Sat 8th.
As I have such a short time in NFK, I thought I'd explain what I'd like to
research
and hope that someone who is familiar with NFK could advise me on the most
effective way to spend my, all too limited :-( time ?
I'd like to find more about my g-g-g/parents. They are in the Durham 1881
census:
David Bolton (b c1836, Bariton, NFK), wife Caroline (b c1836, Bariton, NFK)
with their children Henry (b 1864 Bow, MID) William (b c1867 Diss, NFK) and
Charles (b c1875 Escomb DUR).
The two main areas I am interested in at the moment are:
(1) I'd like to check out the church records for 'Bariton' to see if I can
find
a christening for David and also to note down surnames for 'Caroline'
christenings so I can cross reference the two surnames in the St Cath's
indexes for their marriage.
(2) I'd also like to check for Diss census to see if they were still there
in 1871 to narrow down the date that they moved to Durham.
The problems I have found are:
(1) I cannot find 'Bariton' on the NFK pages of GENUKI. I also did a net
search with 2 search engines but still no luck. I see that there are several
NFK
parishes beginning with 'Barton' - I think that a Durham census taker may have
misheard the name - is this likely ?
(2) There are two NFK FHS/Genealogy groups and, as I don't know where
'Bariton' is, I don't know which group is the best to go to ?
Can anyone advise me please of the best place to access these
church / census records in NFK ?
If any kind soul can help, could you please e-mail me direct as I get the
NFK list by digest so your advice may not arrive before I leave here.
Thank you in anticipation.
