Two recent (in Australia) TV documentary series gave clear, excellent and
fairly up-to-date reportage of advances in genetics, understandable even to
a physicist like moi - "In the Blood", with an English geneticist called (I
think) Prof. Stephen Jones, and "Cracking the Code", with David Suzuki -
both very well worth seeing; puts our common obsession with family history
in a new context.
And while we're talking about stuff on the box that actually has worth,
try, if you stumble across it, "My Night with Handel", for a fascinating
insight into the popular (i.e. Handel opera) music scene some 200 years
ago, (plus some music to make your ears stare), and, for the current
century, "The People's Century", a social and political history with sound
and pictures!
Regarding the Handel programme, I would be _very_ interested to hear views
on whether the name ORLANDO may have been given to one of my ancestors as a
result of a performance of the Handel opera/oratorio(?) of that name.
