Valerie,

Heartfelt thanks for the second look and resultant information - it has filled some nasty
gaps and indicated new avenues of research. The big surprise was Ann PAYNE, widowed
mother, born Longham; in the 1851 census she was Ann GODFREY, widowed mother, born
Longham.

I have not been to Harpley, and so far have found no indication of a family connection to
it. However, I have not found any proven siblings of James Payne GODFREY, nor descendants
of his children other than those of Margaret and Charlotte, so there could be connections
all over the place. Arthur Thomas and Ethel Marjorie would be contemporaries of my
parents. I hesitate to trouble you for information without a reasonable basis for asking
but would be interested in any details you have of the Harpley family.

Cheers,
Cliff Godfrey (Coventry)
