Hi Natalie
I've checked the 1881 Cd index, and only found ONE Ed Overton in the
entire country. He's born in Norfolk, but he's too old for
your Ed.

It's possible that if he was a traveller, maybe his family were as well,
and if they were camped out somewhere, they would have
missed out on the census.
However, I just thought of looking for ANY Overtons in East Anglia - got
649 of them! This one looks really hopeful for your Ed.
Listed as E.C. Overton, so not surprising I couldn't find him as
Edmund. In fact, unusually, the whole family are listed with
initials only. It's the most likely, but you'll need to do some more
research to confirm it. Why on earth didn't they record
their names? I reckon these ancestors could see into the future &
deliberatly disguised their tracks, just to make life more
frustrating for us!!
