Probably has absolutely no relation to the surname Bumphrey. It is
of wide
belief amongst linguists that Pomfrey is derived from the Latin; a
very old
surname dating back to Dark Age Britain that translated "ponte
fracto" -
broken bridge. Some other derivations of this name are Ponfret and
Pomfret.
