hello list
for the geographically challenged here is a link that will give you an
idea as to what part of the world got the shake.
http://www.bigpacific.com
scroll to the bottom of the page click the maps link.
about half way down the page you'll see a map of b.c. and northern
washington state. (the circle area is where many of the norfolk listers
live in b.c.)

we all got a bit of rattle here. the only repercussion for me was my
email thru a wobbly..i could barely send. it took forever to get out.
incoming mail was not effected. that and my five year old bouncing of a
chair yelling earthshake after it was all over. i think she enjoyed the
free ride..))

anyhow, a scroll further down the map page will give you more of an
overview of washington state. the quake was about 50 miles south of
seattle. vancouver is about a two hour drive to seattle. although
seattle is making the news..it was further south that the really
astounding pictures of damage are coming from. the very bottom of the
map is where the quake hit.

we've been told we will not have after shocks. but, i heard overnight
there was another quake in the area registered about 3. on the richter
scale.

the vancouver island and washington state listers took a bigger jolt
than the rest of us. the quake was on the juanda fuca plate and about
30 miles below the earths crust.

the gap of water the separates vancouver island/victoria area from
washington state is called the juanda fuca straight. islanders
experienced things bouncing off shelves/ledges. and some power outages
(30,000 homes) in a vancouver, b.c. suburb.

and now back to the other side of pond..where if i find john george
GRISTON b. about 1834 in norwich, the earth will really move for me.

Hi Mark,
Glad to hear your ok. Quite a lot of structure damage I hear but no
loss of
life and few injuries. There's a news item that our English friends can
read at:
