Sorry I have been so long answering but I virtually have to re read the book
each time I look up a name because the index is not very comprehensive.
The only reference I could find was to a CUBITT who performed in a play in
the late 1880s
"The play was entitled 'The East Wing,' and the plot was incidental to the
re decoration of part of a country mansion, on which two painters were
employed. The squire , a retired general, was an over indulgent father; I
took the part of a rather spoilt daughter, with a duchess as chaperone.
William Groom, one of the painters, had a comic part and was very droll.
Walter Rogers was the old general, Miss Nellie Lockett played the Duchess
and the name of the hero was CUBITT, while Miss Ann Skipper also had a part.
Several of the company were from the Woodbastick Estate.'
The play was put on for the benefit of the yacht skippers and apparently
most of Horning attended.

If I find any other references I will send them.
Regards, Marg Keable
