Re Alan Poole's query. I can't make any direct connections to his WRIGHTs in
Horning but I do indeed trace my WRIGHT ancestors back to Horning in the late
18th century. So I thought I'd share what I've got and we may find linkage
in due course.
My 4 x gt grandfather Thomas WRIGHT was born in Horning about 1786 (based on
census ages). He first married Ann ELMER, b in Norwich about 1781 (census
based), at Gt Yarmouth on 31 Jul 1806. They moved to Coltishall where he was
a corn, coal and timber merchant. His son Isaac, my 3 x gt grandfather, was
born on 19 Oct 1812 and bapt four days later. Ann late ELMER died between
the 1851 and 1861 census and he married another Ann (late surname not known)
some 20 years his junior. Thomas died between 1861 and 1871 and his second
wife survived him, becoming a dressmaker. In 1851, Thomas WRIGHT and first
wife Ann ELMER were living at Watermans Row, Coltishall, and his sister
Elizabeth WRIGHT was returned as living with them as a house servant, age 64,
hence born about 1786-7 (also in Horning).
I do not know the names of Thomas and Elizabeth's parents at Horning (who
would themselves have been born early 1760s or before), but we may find a
connection in due course. I also have a William WRIGHT who, in the 1871
census was a married former wherryman living at Lower Street, Horning, and
born there in about 1804-5 (age 66 at 1871 census).
If any other listers can find a connection between Alan's data and mine,
please let us know.
Chris
