I may have missed the plotline and ulterior motive somewhere but, since the
1891 census for Norfolk has already been transcribed and successfully piloted
on the web (unfortunately, just before I started serious searching for my
Norfolk ancestors), why is it now being withheld from us? Could it be that
someone has realized that they can make a lot of money out of creating a
commercial market for public information? With apologies to the initiator of
this thread, it does, however, seem a huge waste of effort to engage a lot of
people in transcribing records that have already been successfully
transcribed, when there are so many that haven't, and when the better option
would seem to be to put pressure on the PRO to re-activate the 1891 pilot
site that, by all accounts, was user-friendly and accurate.
