I guessed it was in pencil for the most part because of the instructions
about using ink for others. I think the bottom line is any company offering
to sell something should do so on the basis of 'fit for purpose' - most
people would intend to read the material and if that takes better quality
scanners then so be it - not strictly the consumers problem.

Don't forget the 1841 was mostly written in pencil, hence the reason why
a lot of it is illegible. You need expensive scanning equipment such as
Archive CD Books use to bring up the resolution.

Hi Graham
I took a look at your families

> In Pottergate Street;
> Mary Love 36 Lodging House No 'tick'
> Henry do 15 Yes
> Mary do 12 Yes
> Julia do 8 Yes
> Samuel do 6 Yes

I agree with your reading accept for Samuel, there appears to be 2 or 3
more letters after the 'l', cannot make what the name might be. The
leading letter 'S' at first look might be a 'B' except that the
enumerator starts a B with a down stroke.

As for the HARDY family

> In Dove Street;
> John Hardy 35 Plumber
> Harriett do 36 Yes
> John do 12
> ???? do 9-------------William
> ???? do 6-------------Stephen
> ???? do 2-------------Dominic
> Sarah do 15
> ???? do 1-------------Eliza or Thurza
These names are my nearest interpretation, I would want to check them
against PRs or later census.

I agree that some images are poor quality, I think this due to faded
ink. Some other pages are a lot worse than those containing the above
families.

Bye for now
