John COBB was born in Belton in l783. He married Ann PLUMMER (b.l778 E. Ruston Nfk) in l806 at Belton.
I am sure that this John and Ann COBB became farmers of a 200 acre farm at Lound, Suffolk. I know that John died in l846, aged 63 and his wife Ann in l863 aged 85.

On the l84l Census entry for Lound, John and Ann have a male servant working for them called George PRIOR, aged 40, b. Sfk.

Ten years later, there is another COBB family living in Oulton on the l85l census. Head of the family is a Robert COBB, 45, b. Stokesby Norfolk. He is a farmer of 200 acres employing 4 labourers including one George PRIOR of Lound. This George is 40 but I have learnt not to take much notice of ages given on censuses. If this George and the one on the l84l Lound Census are one and the same it must mean there was some connection between John COBB of Lound and this Robert COBB of Stokesby. Robert also has a visitor - one Mary COBB (unmarried) aged 50 and born Rollesby.

I visited Rollesby a couple of years ago and noticed a host of COBB graves there. My CLARKE family (who married into the COBBs at Burgh Castle) also lived at Rollesby in the early l800's so perhaps there is a connection.

I have checked on the IGI for possible baptisms for Robert and Mary but none of the entries seem to fit. If anyone is researching the COBB name and can fill in any gaps I would be pleased to hear from you.

I suppose it is possible that this Robert (b. ca. l805 Stokesby) and Mary (b. ca l801 Rollesby) could be children to John COBB but I doubt it. He didn't marry Ann PLUMMER until l806 and at his marriage he was said to be a single man. I had always assumed they had remained childless as their nephew, William HORTH, was mentioned in all links to the family to date.

I would be delighted to hear from anyone with links. I would also love to know who Robert of Stokesby's parents were!
