Hello Diane,

Do either of your CLARKEs or BALLS' have any connections to Norwich -
Heigham and/or Pockthorpe in particular? My 2 x grand-aunt Mary BALLS had a
daughter Mary MARSHALL (father John MARSHALL), who in turn married a George
Samuel CLARKE. Not sure of all the exact dates off-hand, but I've have them
in the 1891 census, all living together. By this time the MARSHALL couple
were into their 80s, with the CLARKE couple into their 60s. I couldn't find
any young children for the CLARKEs in previous census - so think they may
have been childless. Mary BALLS may have used the surname STONE as well,
which would have been her step-father's surname - Edward STONE, a silk
weaver, who married Mary BALLS in 1835 (yes another Mary BALLS, the first
one's Mum). We think that Mary may have been the Mary PAXTON who married a
James BALLS, though at present I have no proof they are my 3 x
great-grandparents.

I know there are a great many BALLS' & CLARKEs in Norfolk, but thought I'd
ask just in case!
