I am writing to provide an update on the 1861 census project. One
further piece has been uploaded to the on line database and is now
searchable for free on the main freecen site at http://www.freecen.org.uk
This is piece RG9/1264 Methwold covering the parishes of Brandon (SFK) ,
Cranwich , Feltwell , Mundford , Santon , Santon Downham (SFK), St Mary
& Nicholas. This means that there are now 79,760 (23.1%) 1861 Norfolk
census records available to search free on line. Many thanks to Dave
Tennant, & Julie Searles without their help this information would not
be available. If you would like to help with making more information
available please contact me on
<mailto:>.

Please remember that spelling was not standard in 1861 so you may need
to be a little imaginative with some of your searches. We have to
provide a transcript of what the enumerator wrote not what we think he
meant.

The 1861 pieces on line are 1190, Yarmouth Southern,1193, Yarmouth
Northern,1195 East Flegg,1196 West Flegg, 1197, Ludham, 1205, Eynsford,
1218, West Wymer, 1222, Wymondham, 1230, Woodton, 1234, Forncett, 1239,
Shipdham, 1242, East Dereham, 1243, Litcham,1244, North Elmham, 1254,
Castle Rising 1255, Kings Lynn North, 1264, Methwold and 1266, Thetford.

Hope this helps you in your research.
