G/Day Northamptonshire and Happy New Year To All,
I am posting this message in the hope that someone may be able to assist
me in clearing up a mystery.
I have a John STRETHER, I believe he was born in 1797 in Gretton
Northants, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth STREATHER nee CRAXFORD.
Johns´early years are unknown. I know he married a lady called Sarah.
However he did not marry in all the Parishes that have been researched
so far. He first turns up in Yarwell, where he and Sarah had a daughter
christened in 1831, Sarah Ann. His occupation was gardener. His father
ran a farm in Gretton. He turns up again in 1835 in Stamford in
Lincolnshire. John and Sarah seem to have three children in Stamford.
John in 1835, Mary in 1837 and John in 1839.
I also believe John and Sarah had another daughter prior to Sarah Ann. I
believe her name was Ann STREATHER. In 1850 in Stamford again, an Ann
STREATHER had her son George Robert STREATHER baptised.
I realise that this request requires access to the PRs and BTs. I have
no idea which was John went from Gretton. I have not been able to get
access to the 1851 census from Stamford Lincs to be able to confirm
anything.
I would also be interested to know if anyone has access to the Parish
Records for the Parishes of Helpston and Geddington. A Josiah STREDDER
moved to Hepston from Baston Lincs in 1753 and a Timothy STREADER and
his wife Elizabeth (believed to be his second wife) moved from Corby to
Geddington in 1757. Any information on these families after the dates
would also be appreciated.
I gratefully accept any help in these matters.
