Hi Sue,

137a Wellingborough Road must have been a part of the old St Edmunds
Hospital. The site is now being demolished so the hospital is no longer in the
phone book but the next building in the road is The Spread Eagle pub and its
number is 147. St Edmunds Hospital used to be the local Workhouse and, like many
others, later became a hospital, this particular one for the elderly and
infirm. I can't remember exactly when they started to pull it down but it must
be about 5 or 6 years ago.

<My great-grand mother, Mary Elizabeth Parnham, lived in Nottingham until
the death of her husband, and then came to live in Northampton with her middle
son John Stanley Smith (my grand father). Her death certificate says she was
normally resident at 100 Delapre St, but she died at 137a Wellingborough
Road. This was in February 1947. Does anyone know whether this address was a
hospital or nursing home? I can't think of any other reason why she would be
there.
