I don't know if there is a Joicey's Square in Tanfield, however there
is one in Stanley, a village about 1 mile south of Tanfield. It is still there
today.

It is named after James Joicey who was the main colliery owner on
Tanfield Moor. He expanded the family mining interests by taking over
the Earl of Durham's pits in 1896, the Hetton Coal Company in 1911,
and Silksworth Colliery in 1920, becoming the largest colliery company
in Co. Durham.
