Hi Brian
>>and made way for a roundabout in 1970."<<
Not true.
The "Golden Tiger" was situated just north of
what was Van der Velde's shop on the WEST side
of Pilgrim Street, just North of the Mosley Street
junction. It was "behind" (through an archway) two
small frontages. It was removed to allow Market Lane
to be extended the length of Pilgrim Street, at the
rear of the premises, and to allow a turning area for
deliveries to be made at the rear of the premises.
It's site is now marked by the wooden hoarding painted
to resemble the front of a building. (Bet you hadn't noticed)
The manager was "Vivien" a large long flaxen(Bottle blonde) haired
male? who eventually went to the "Greyhound" in Gateshead area
if memory serves.
Regards
Gerry
