When I looked for an ancestor's will at Somerset House (he died in
1870), the record book noted, "Probate being granted under certain
Specialties". Could someone please explain what this means?
Also, if someone died in the 1890s and left effects of 4692 pounds,
would this be considered to be a low, average, or above average, sized
estate?
Thanks for any comments,
Eleanor Clouter,
