Hi Eleanor,
There was obviously something unusual about the 1870 will. Perhaps the
adminstrators or executors had to enter into a bond, or perhaps there was
some unusual condition in the will itself. If you order the documents from
the Probate Registry in York, they will probably tell you why.
An estate of over 4K in 1890 was a lot of money.
