Jeff,

Thank you for all the information. It is very useful but I am not sure
whether it fully clears up which Methodist circuit I should be looking at.

My mother's notes (she was researching in the early '70 and would know
Lanchester as she lived there from 1914 - about 1936) have George Buckham
moving from Hedley to Lanchester about 1874 and his children's birth records
confirm that. The notes also say he helped plan and build the chapel on
Front St. Something does not add up as your report of Wellan's Directory the
chapel on Front St was built in 1868 although the PM chapel was built 1884.
Perhaps the family story exaggerated a bit and it was only the Sunday School
and Vestry that he helped to plan and build about 1883.

It is likey that my mother would go to the same chapel as a child that her
mother grew up in. Her Presbytarian father was away at war and I do not
believe there was a Presbytarian church/chapel in Lanchester. Hence I am
leaning towards the Wesleyan Methodist chapel that my great-grandfather and
his family were involved with. I certainly would be grateful for a picture,
if it is not too much trouble. I have a booklet "More about Lanchester" by
Lilian Dixon with many old photographs in it but none of the Methodist
chapels.

The second email with details of the Buckhams was interesting in that I can
estimate George Buckham becoming postmaster in the 1891 - 1894 time period.
It is interesting in that his brother Joseph, a joiner/carpenter, is not
mentioned. I know that does not mean he was not there but again family
stories have him in South Africa between 1891 and 1901.

Thanks again,

Frank
