Yes, it's a terminology you often hear, but it is important to
correct the error, for error it is. There is nothing special
about a certificate issued at the time - other than perhaps
sentimental value - it is still a "copy certificate".
It might not even be unique - I asked for three copies of the
certificate when I married because I knew that two organisations
needed to see proof of marriage straight way and I didn't want
to be without a certificate, even temporarily. Which of those
three would you regard as "original". On the four occasions
when I've registered a death I've asked for five copies of the
certificate because of the numerous organisations that need to
see proof of death. Five "originals" maybe. :-)
