The mention of beaches reminds me that my wife has just looked at a recent
photo of the beach at Tynemouth, and remembering her trips there as a child
from Wallsend.

The beach had hot water sellers, who provided hot water to make tea. They
went by rail, the stations and the trains were packed, and lots of families
took not just cups and saucers, but the teapot too, and a pint of milk, with
them. They got off at Tynemouth, walked along the beach to Whitley Bay,
passing Cullercoats on the way, then caught the train home. She wonders when
the hot water sellers disappeared?
