I have found that in the UK, as well as in Australia, the European male
"Jan" (Ian) will still remain "Jan" and this will apply to many names of various
origins unless these are regarded by the "owner" as being too difficult for
Anglos to pronounce.
Britons and Australians do not appear to have the need to unnecessarily
"Anglicise" people's names and try very hard to accommodate where practicable.
