I don't know about him being "allowed" to raise a daughter, but slaegtfred, I
just recently found out, means illegitimate. Given his age, perhaps the mother
was also "a little older" and had died or didn't want to raise the daughter, so
he did. Any number of circumstances could have led to his being the one to
raise her. It might just be part of the responsibility of having fathered her
that he also had to provide a home for her.
