Hei

Buland, Goodman married Brijnelson, Isabel/Brennard, Isabel, June 7, 1852, v. B, #207, LaSalle County, IL. Apparently the transcriber entered it twice in the IL Statewide Marriage Index, as she must have give both names. A copy of the marriage record may be obtained from the Regional Archives. The IRAD center at Northern IL Univ. seems to make no charge. Other centers may charge $1 for photocopy and postage.
Isabel's brother Anders Brynildsen Saue's marriage, Dec. 18, 1858 is recorded under the name Andrew Anderson.

Isabel's emigrated 1844 with parents, Brynild Andersen Saue, son of Anders Pedersen Rasdal and Giertru Brynjelsdatter, born in Voss, Hordaland. Mother's name Ingeborg Sjursdatter Vassenden daughter of Sjur Arnesen Vassenden and Ragnilde Sjursdatter. Brynild and Ingeborg emigrated with 7 of 8 children, including two daughters named Ingeborg. There is a possibility that there the 8th child, was born in IL, 1847, named Synnove. One other daughter named Synøva b. Voss, Hordland, Feb. 23, 1825, emigrated.

Goodman Buland's son Clarence is still farming in Earl twp, LaSalle County in 1917. See LaSalle County gen-web page which has the entries for the farmers from the Prairie Farmer Directpru pf 1917.

Marriage records requesting names of parents did not begin in IL until about 1879/1880. The most recent copy I have of a LaSalle County license is 1871, and it does not request parents. The oldest copy I have is 1844. The county apparently did not even own a regular ledger or printed licenses...everything is completely handwritten! Even the license which the Minister of the Gospel signed and returned to the county.

near each other in America. And Erik Osmundson Meling and Gudmund Bjoland
seem to have married the sisters Mary and Isabel Brainerd.

The Ikdal book says that the Brainerd family came from Voss and settled in
LaSalle County. In the Digitalarkivet Norwegians in the USA in 1850 list,
you will find Brenner Anderson, his wife Isabel, four daughters (including
Isabel and Mary) and a son. Brenner´s Norwegian name is Brynild Andersen
Saue, which fits Susan´s information. The family emigrated from Voss in
1844 and seems to have used two surnames--Brainerd and Anderson. There
are also two teenage girls listed together in Ottawa, LaSalle
County--Isabel Brainerd and Dorthe Samuels, who are the right ages to be
Goodman´s future wife and his sister. It seems likely that they were
working as servants in Ottawa, and were listed twice in the census, once
with their families and also where they worked. It seems that many of
these people often used two American surnames, one based on the farm name
and one on the patronymic.
