First of all, I would suggest the original name was Torval(d)
Knudsen/Knudson/Knutsen/Knutson
This was my thought, too. And following this chain I found in the 1880
census a Torkel Knudson in Big Grove Twp., Kendall, Illinois age 50 born Nor; wife
Julia, 48, b Nor; Lewis, 13 b IL; Elias O, 9 b IL; Julia, 8 b IL and Anna, 5 b
IL. This seems to fit the best.
I looked thru Big Grove Twp, in 1870 but didn't this family (there is a
Torkel Newtson, 35 b Nor, wife Julia, 40; Lars 12 b Nor; Anna, 10 Nor; Ole 8 IL and
others. Living next door are John and Samuel Newton, b Nor; Tower, Anna &
Bertha Newton all born Norway and Toris Newton with with Julia, son Lars, 15 all
born Norway, Knut & others born in IL). And yes, it is Newton. Maybe
someone with a faster connection could look thru the rest of Kendall Co in 1880 to
see if they can find Bertha, age 4, with Torkel Knudson family.
