I have thought oxen must have had an important role in the Øksendal valley
in Sunndal, Møre og Romsdal. Can anyone comment on the reason for the naming
of this valley?

Yes, Ulvestad mentions oxen at the beginning of most stories. Were there
oxen in Norway? If I remember correctly in the Bygdabok, when they list the
livestock, they talk of cattle. Would that include oxen?
