As one who also lives in a state with an established church - I would
personally vote for at least a degree of disestablishment. Here the link between
church and state is relatively loose with no money put into the church from
the government but with a degree of support for the government expected from
the church. I feel that on the whole the "cons" of establishment outweigh the
"pros". However I believe that in Norway the government does put money into
church structures e.g. paying stipends, so the situation is very differentand
maybe the benefits are more evenly balanced. Here the appointment of
Bishops is largely a matter for the Prime Minister but local clergy are church
appointments. It's a difficult issue, but whatever the outcome, considering the
issue has to be a good thing!
