Hi all,
I have been trying to find a record of Marte Halvorsdatter leaving the
Parish. Until today I have had no luck.
I found a record for May 7, 1844 saying that Marthe Olsdatter, Svensoe,
born Aug. 29, 1818 left for Amerika. My question is, could the priest who
wrote the entry have put the wrong patronymic down? My guess is that he
knew her very well and had a slight lapse of who her father was although he
probably asked for her birthdate and maybe the farm. I checked the birth
records and there was no other Marthe (Marte) born on that day in that
parish.
Could it be possible this sort of mistake could be made? I sure hope so
because otherwise I am at a dead end again!
Also, given that departure date, where would she have most likely gone
to catch a boat out? Drammen, Bergen, Oslo (Christiania or Xania as I have
seen it written in these records) or other?
