Here are Svenum and Gunhild in the 1865 census in Kragerø.
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=28&filnamn=f60801&gardpostnr=113&personpostnr=686&merk=686#ovre

At that time they had a daughter Anne, age 4; and a son, Severin Olaves, age
1. The Peter/Peter Hildahl of this search was born in 1864, so he is not
the Peter, son of this Svenum andGunhild. These sons of Peder and Gunhild
must have been born after 1865. The Anne and Severin did not emigrate, they
had a daughter later named Anne, so perhaps the first one died.

I verified this theory with the US Federal census of 1900. Svenum and
Bertha are found in Sparta, Chippewa County, Minnesota. Svenum was
transcribed with just his last name of "Heldahl). He was born Oct 1848 in
Norway (53), immigrated 1882. Bertha was born May 1873 (27) in Minnesota.
John was born in April 1869 (31), Peter, November 1874 (25). Bertha was
actually younger than John the son. They also had George, Bengiman (sic)
Emma and a son that apparently is Louis from the biography.

So, this Peter j. Heldahl, son of Svenum is not the right Peter. But, M.
Peter Heldahl and "Marry" are living in the same area of Sparta. He is
found on Sheet 126A (Ancestry page 17 of 18). Svenum is on Sheet 122B
(Ancestry page 9 of 18). So, the "odds" indicate they may possibly been
related somehow.

In the Norwegian census of 1865 for Kragerø, there is a Peder, age 2, born
1864. He is Peder Leonard Ols', son of Ole Nikolai Pauls' and Gurine
Pedersdtr. They were living on a farm "Underskrift: Knud Knudsen", a farm
division owned by Knud Knudsen.
