Ron,

I guess, it wasn't my intention to correct, but the situation you talked about
reminded me of my own situation!

I suppose they had to come up with something like "Stor" and "Lil", if they were
gonna have two names exactly alike!

LOL.... my mom had me and my 2 siblings....when she wanted me, she'd say " Ruthie,
Bummy, Marilyn (cousin), Elaine (cousin) and Inky (my DOG!!!!) before.... she got to
me!! Bummy (actually Phillip) got his nickname from a neighbor he didn't much like.
He had hair so blond it was almost white... she ruffled his hair (he hated that)and
said "Bummel" My sister wanted to know what it meant... Mom said "cotton-top"....
Bummy was muttering to himself, "Bummel! Bummel! Bummy!" and the name stuck! he
was "Bummy" or just "Bum" till the day he died!

Of course, I was born a lot later, so I just ****heard**** the story, my sister
(deceased) was 18 years older than me and my brother (also deceased) was 12 years
older.... I was most definitely the afterthought!

Thanks....

PAX

You are correct. In the naming practices, one could be named for a deceased
mother, the mother of the head of household or spouse, for a grandmother,
etc. The Archives are filled with these stories and explanations.

For this inquiry, I indicated perhaps she had died, as she was not living in
the household in the USA. Of course, she could have remained in Norway, as
she would have been 20, or she could have emigrated and had married in the
USA. Thank you for correcting my perhaps to include other options. But,
she is not the sister to the Peter in question.
