Carole,

Those names you listed are the Latized version of the first names of the
people of the parish. In some parishes the registers were written in
latin, or a mixture of latin and Englaish depending on the knowledge of
the vicar, curate, or clerk.

Get a film copy of the parish register at your nearest Latter-Day Saints
library and have a look at it - it can be fascinating, frustrating,
informative, but mostly it is the only way to go - where possible go
back to the original record. Many books on Genealogy in the public
libraries under the Dewey system 928 have information on parish
registers and old writing.
