Framework knitters used to make a variety of cloth and items of clothing,
including, particularly, stockings. An excellent publication "Framework
Knitting" by Marilyn Palmer, is sold by the Nottinghamshire Family History
Society for a couple of pounds or so, and makes facinating reading reading.
It would answer every qiestion you may have about this trade and its
social history.
