Dick and all,
One other thing you might not realize about using credit cards in
England......if you're using them in restaurants, and other places where
you tip, there seems not to be the general practise there to add your tip
to your credit card bill in the manner we do here in the states.
I never quite figured out why....something about the way they've got the
security part of credit card transactions set up....I think they must go
ahead and total stuff earlier......Anyway, this was a consistent problem
everywhere, *even* once you'd figured out to say something in advance. Even
the hotel couldn't do it for adding in housekeeping staff tips. So if you
plan to tip, have the cash on you for that part.
(Really embarrassing if you thought you were gonna do it all with your
credit card, so stuck it in your pocket...headed out to dinner and took
nothing else along!! .....not that *I* ever did such a thing...ooohhh
nooooooo.... of *course* not! ....but I can just *imagine*!) <Big Grin>.
