Dear All,
My ancestor John ILES' first and third kids were born in Clayworth.
John was born in "Clonrith" (Royal Artillery records- a phonetic
mis-transcription, I believe) and baptised in Sturton-le-Steeple 1 Dec
1776. Thomas was also in the RA, with the same birthplace, and baptised
10 Mar 1782 in Sturton-le-Steeple. The scond son, William was baptised
19 Mar 1780 in Sturton-le-Steeple, but I don't know where he was born.
John and Thomas ended up marying in Edinburgh in 1806 and 1802
respectively. Their parents were John ILES and Dinah ____.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why they might have joined the RA and
moved to Edinburgh, or any info on ILES in Notts?
