My great grandfather, Samuel HOUSLEY, was a pram mfr.from about 1860
till his death in 1898. He was a master blacksmith and had his shop on
Westgate. According to my recollections as a child, some of the prams
were made for royalty. I did find that William SCALING of Percy St., was
a basketmaker and purveyor to Queen Victoria, and since prams in those
days had wicker bodies and an iron frame it is logical that Basford
would be a fine place to manufacture prams. There were four other firms
making prams in Old Basford in 1885 : GREEN & Co.,Lemuel GROCOCK, James
KITCHEN, and Theodore PASCO.I would be interested in hearing from any
descendants of the above pram manufacturers. Fred Housley, Leola,PA,USA
