Hi all,
I was guilty of replying directly, you read my mind, so-to make ammends-
here's what I wrote approximately:
If by St Cath's Registers, you mean births marriages and deaths, they are
available at most main libraries, which have local history departments. These
are stored on microfiche and, incidently, are thus much easier to manage than
hefty books at St Caths*, if a little harder on the eye. There seems to be no
rhyme or reason to how recent the BMD records are. For example, as I'm
Liverpool based, I use Liverpool library's fiches which span 1837-1940,
Preston spans 1837-1980. (they all seem to start at 1837, its a matter of how
recent you want)
To answer your question, Mansfield (Notts) (and presumably Nottingham,
possibly Newark and Worksop) have Microfiches of B,M, & D's. You don't need
to book in advance for Mansfield unless you want photostats of the fiche
entries.
*St Caths Birth Marriages and Death records have moved to the Family Record
Centre, Myddleton Street, London, between Farringdon and Angel. I'm a new
subscriber and new(ish) to genealogy, so excuse me if this info is known to
everyone. I have, however found a lightning fast way to recieve BMD records
(compared to the ONS method of making anyone outside London wait until they're
almost dead before processing applications, so if someone thinks its useful,
I'll put it down in writing)
Nice to be aboard,
Jonhat.
