I know that this is way off topic but I know how helpful you intrepid geneologists can be .... I have got my hands on some old photographs which I have scanned into my computer and they have been stored as a TIF file. I would rather save them on disc than risk the kids deleting them or something ... is it best to 'save as' a jpg file or is there a better way of making them smaller to save on disc?
