Hi Everybody! I'm new to the list.
I'm looking for my late husband's grandfather Thomas Henry Flint who
stated on his 1881 marriage certificate in Brisbane, Australia, that he
was born in St John's NF and that his parents were James Flint, a cooper,
and Catharine Brien. His birth date would have been in the 1850s. The
story handed down in the family is that the name was once Flynn but we
don't know if the change was made in Newfoundland or Australia.
My son and I have searched for a long time for Thomas Henry Flint's
origins, without success. A remark made by a cousin recently makes us
wonder if there was a Nova Scotia connection, and I believe the name
Flint can be found in NS. There appear to be no Flints in NF.
Does the above mean anything to anyone?
Best wishes
Sheila Flint
